Singing and Playing in the Countryside
By Alex Johnson
Every year for as long as I can remember, LCA has been putting on a Christmas Concert for the local church down the street, Countryside Bible Chapel. This year the weather was exceptionally awful with pouring rain and cold temperatures. It got so bad that the entrance to LCA was flooded and people had enter the lot through Pearl Street, which is usually the exit.
But that didn't stop people from coming out to the concert. There was a good number of people there, and eventually there were enough to fill the church. It was a cozy atmosphere and it was fun to play and sing for people that don't know us but decided to come out anyway. It is always a little cramped on the small stage, but both the instrumentalists and the vocalists made it work.
Highlights from the night for me were the pieces "Good Swing Wenceslas," a jazzy wind piece that played on the familiar tune, "Ice Sculptures," a modern string piece featuring Harris Desrosier ('15) on the cello, and the singing of the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel's Messiah at the end of the night, an LCA tradition. This, of course, was a primer for the upcoming concert on December 18th. Middle school and upper school instrumentalists and vocalists perform what they've been working on for the entire year to help you get in the Christmas spirit and celebrating the arrival of Christmas break and Christmas itself. You get to experience the breadth of talent contained in the LCA musical community and sing the Hallelujah Chorus. What could possibly be better?
